5 Phrases I Can’t Stand
2009 November 6
- “I can’t that song out of my head” Why: I don’t like this saying because you can’t literally pick up a song and stuff it in your head. I don’t care if it’s a figure of speech
- “Um…” Why: Even though every language has this word in it, it does not appear in any dictionaries (apologies if it’s in your country’s dictionary because it’s not in mine) so it doesn’t have a meaning. You say it at least 1000 times in a day (if you’re a talkative person)
- “That’s the way the cookie crumbles” Why: Look, everybody knows a cookie crumbles into a million pieces when crushed so why compare this to a mistake? It has nothing to do with the life of a HUMAN BEING does it?
- “Skeen” Why: If you haven’t heard of it, then all you have to do if spend a second listening in on a high school students convosation to hear this word come up. It means sure or okay then… but I can’t stand the way they drag out the word (ie. skeeeeeeen) like they aren’t sure what they are saying. If you are in a different country to the UK then look it up on http://www.urbandictionary.com/
- “OMG!” Why: If you’re going to say ‘Oh My Gosh!’ Then why don’t you say the whole thing and not abbreviated it. It’s not that long a phrase to be shortened. I mean I can understand why LOL is abbreviated but not OMG…
